Remedial Massage · why otp

Most agencies will tell you a rule that does not apply to you.

One leading Australian allied health agency's own article about health advertising rules mentions section 133 fourteen times and massage not once, while selling to two professions the section does not bind. That is the level of category knowledge in this market.

What we do first

Negatives, then the fund contract, then the campaign.

In most verticals a negative keyword list is maintenance. In massage it decides whether the account works, because the auction is shared with day spas, beauty salons, modality-led operators and adult services. We build that list from the category structure before launching rather than discovering it through a month of wasted spend.

Then we read your health fund provider agreements. At least one major fund's terms prohibit bidding on its trade marks without written approval and require them as negative exact matches. Launching a fund campaign without checking puts you in breach of a commercial agreement that matters more to your business than the campaign does.

How we work

Four things specific to remedial massage.

We use the testimonial freedom deliberately
You are not bound by section 133 and your registered competitors are. Real client accounts of real problems, handled within consumer law, are the strongest and least used asset in this category.
We measure calls as the primary action
Our own analysis of 2,222 Australian massage venues found only 1.9 per cent offered instant online booking. An account measuring form fills alone is blind to most of its conversions.
We separate remedial from relaxation everywhere
Different campaigns, different pages, different negatives. They cost nearly the same to deliver, and only one of them carries a rebate claim and a clinical positioning.
We run the voucher season rather than negating it
Christmas, Mother's Day in May and Father's Day in early September are real revenue. The leading competitor page in this category treats voucher as a negative keyword and gives that revenue away.
The budget honesty this category needs
There is no high value first visit in remedial massage. Across 117 Australian clinics we found a matched initial and standard consultation pair at exactly one, so the physiotherapy model of a longer, dearer first appointment barely exists here. With a median 60 minute service at $95, a cost per acquisition in the range agencies commonly quote consumes a third to a half of first visit revenue, and is only recoverable across rebooking. That maths has to be understood before a budget is set, not explained afterwards.

Questions clinic owners actually ask

How much should a remedial massage clinic spend on Google Ads?
Enough that the account can learn, which is a real constraint at this price point. With a median 60 minute service at $95 and no meaningful initial consultation premium, the recoverable acquisition cost is genuinely tight and depends on rebooking. There is a second problem: a small budget at typical allied health click prices produces too few conversions each month for automated bidding to learn from, which is an argument for making online bookings and calls the conversion rather than enquiry forms, and for consolidating campaigns rather than splitting them thinly.
How quickly will a massage clinic account produce bookings?
Live in seven days, with bookings usually inside the first fortnight, because this category has immediate local intent and a short consideration cycle. The first month is mostly negative keyword work, since the auction is shared with businesses selling something else entirely. Expect the cost per booking to fall noticeably between month one and month three as that list tightens. Judging the account properly means looking at rebooking rather than first visits, which takes about a quarter.
Do you work with more than one massage clinic in the same area?
No, one per catchment. Massage catchments are small, because clients do not travel far for a sixty minute appointment, so two clients in the same suburb would be bidding against each other for the same searches. Given how tight the margins are in this category, that would be actively harmful to both.
What do you need from a massage clinic to get started?
Access to the Google Ads account and Business Profile, which booking or practice software you run, which health funds you hold provider status with and at what qualification level, your price and duration list, and an honest answer on the remedial versus relaxation split in your current bookings. That last one matters most, because a clinic that is mostly relaxation with a remedial service and a clinic that is genuinely clinical need completely different accounts, and the fund and testimonial angles only work properly for the second.
