Practice management software is usually chosen on clinical workflow and never on attribution. That is reasonable, and it is also why so many physio clinics cannot tell which half of their marketing works.
These are the practice management systems in common use in Australian physiotherapy. We have deliberately not published market share percentages, because no credible public figures exist and every number circulating online traces back to a vendor claim.
| System | Notes | What it means for tracking |
|---|---|---|
| Cliniko | Australian built and very widely used across allied health. Cliniko states it is trusted by more than 65,000 health professionals worldwide. | The embedded widget runs in an iframe and strips referrer data. Use the hosted portal or the postMessage API. This is the single highest impact fix on most physio accounts. |
| Nookal | Australian, markets dedicated physiotherapy and podiatry products. | Embed behaviour needs testing on your specific setup. We do not have verified findings and will not guess. |
| Halaxy | Australian built, strong Medicare and private health rebate workflow. Free core platform with paid add ons. | The rebate workflow is genuinely useful for funded cohorts. Tracking behaviour needs testing. |
| Zanda | Formerly Power Diary. The rename is recent enough that a lot of documentation still says Power Diary. | Needs testing. If an agency quotes you Power Diary integration docs, check they are current. |
| PracSuite | Smartsoft's current product, successor to Front Desk. Smartsoft has been an Australian vendor for over 30 years. | Needs testing. |
| Splose | Australian, growing presence in allied health. | Needs testing. |
Vendor claims are attributed to the vendor. We have verified that these products serve the Australian physiotherapy market; we have not independently tested the booking embed behaviour of anything other than Cliniko, and we will not claim otherwise.
Most clinics embed the booking widget because it keeps the patient on the website, which looks tidier. That instinct is right about experience and wrong about measurement, at least with Cliniko, where the iframe means the click that produced the booking is discarded.
The alternative is to send the patient to the hosted booking portal on the vendor's domain. It feels like a downgrade and it is the option that lets you attribute revenue. If keeping the patient on your own site matters enough, the postMessage route exists, but it needs implementing properly with origin validation rather than pasting a snippet and hoping.
Whichever you choose, choose it deliberately. The default is the one that quietly costs you the ability to judge your own advertising.
